Chicken Coops

Chicken coops are the most important part of successfully raising chickens since this is where they will be safe from predators at night and lay their eggs every day. A chicken coop must be designed to keep aggressive predators out while the chickens are in the coop. This means a strong frame and solid wire mesh covering any openings.

All birds roost at night, and your chickens will come home to roost in their safe and cozy chicken coop. Inside the chicken coop chickens prefer a perch for sleeping and they will also look for a nesting box as a destination for laying their eggs. Also be sure that the coop will be easy to clean as chickens are not house broken.

Chicken Run

If you don't want your chickens to roam, be sure to choose a coop that has an attached chicken run where the chickens can get fresh air and scratch in the dirt as chickens do. Chicken runs can be added onto a coop and are usually made of a wood or metal frame and wire mesh. Be sure to consider how you will clean the run on a regular basis.

Chicken Tractor

A chicken tractor is a movable chicken coop that usually has one or two wheels. This allows you to move the coop to different areas so the chickens have clean and fresh ground to scratch. You can find chicken tractors at many stores such as Tractor Supply or you can build your own.
