Chicken and poultry incubators are designed for hatching eggs and maintain the correct temperatures during incubation. Several incubators offer automatic egg turning to keep the eggs turned every four hours for maximum healthy chicks.

When buying a new incubator, consider what features will be worth the extra money in terms of your time and successful results.

After Hatching

After hatching, chicks are moved to brooders that are used to keep the chickens warm for the first several weeks of their lives. Brooders featuring heating with lights that are controlled by thermostats for just the right temperature.

About a Fifteen Day Stay

Chicks stay in the brooder until they have feathered out and can maintain their own body temperature. The brooder, like the incubator, is a mechanical substitute for the hen.
